Judging Criteria Green Concept Interior Design Student Awards


The Asia Young Designer Awards (“AYDA”), organised by the Nippon Paint Malaysia Group.

AYDA is a platform that exposes students to experience the challenges in the design boundaries and contextual issues in the architecture and interior design fields.

Your interior design proposal should portray an interior environment with the potential to better the lives of its users or inhabitants, both practically and psychologically. You should demonstrate a way of looking at all possibilities for improvement and inspiring people within a spatial context.

Judging Criteria -Green Concept Interior Design Student Awards

The criteria below will form 70% of the total marks. The remaining 30% will be scored from the oral presentation.

1. DESIGN CONCEPT 20%

-Project and program conception or problem statement.
-Good display of research
-Ability to propose unique solutions to interesting design challenges
-Critical response


2. PLANNING & FUNCTIONALITY 20%

SPATIAL PLANNING:
Appropriate design and planning of individual spaces as suited to their specific needs, with an emphasis on anthropometric and ergonomic principles.


FUNCTIONALITY:
The design must be appropriate for their intended use and have a positive impact that benefits the community and the end-user as a whole.


3. DESIGN INNOVATION 15%

-Original and out of the box thinking
-Innovative interventions that manifest new and forward-driven ways that look into creating solutions that interact emotionally, emphatically, socially and culturally.


4. SUSTAINABILITY & RELEVANCE 15%

-Climate responsiveness
-Optimized non-renewable resource use such as material, water, or energy
-Life cycle consideration throughout the design, construction, and building operation
-Enhanced indoor environmental quality for people's health and well-being
-Applicability
-Universal design


5. COLOUR USAGE 15%

-Creating a balance between colours
-Creative use of colours


6. THEME COMPATIBILITY & FORWARD THINKING 10%

-Score based on theme compatibility, level of innovation, forward and critical thinking.
-The design should convey a solution that is feasibly resulting in a positive impact on the design outcome.


7.DELIVERY & PRESENCE 5%

-The student should display good clarity and energy with a creative and witty delivery.
-The presentation should be cohesive with a strong display of understanding of the project with actions, visual aids, graphics, and animations. Be creative, be you.
